The leak comes from @MysteryLupin on X/Twitter (via 9to5Google ), and claims that the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will feature Google's new Tensor A1 audio chip. The first-generation Pixel Buds Pro also featured a custom chipset, but this is the first time Google has branded it under the Tensor name.
According to the leak, the new Tensor chip will improve sound processing for premium, immersive audio and deliver 2x ANC improvement over the first generation. While I wasn't particularly disappointed with the ANC on the Pixel Buds Pro, any improvement is welcome. In addition to this, Google will also be using the new chipset for new AI features.
The new earbuds have conversation detection, which automatically pauses playback when it detects you're talking. Hearing health is another AI feature making its debut in the Pixel Buds Pro 2. The Pixel Buds app will analyze how loud you're listening to music over a period of time and notify you to adjust the volume to protect your hearing.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 have one notable downgrade from their predecessor.
As expected, the earbuds will support fast pairing and multi-device connectivity, allowing for seamless switching between Pixel phones, tablets, and watches. According to the leak, they'll also be compatible with Google's new Find My Device network.
But where the Pixel Buds Pro 2 may be a downgrade is in terms of battery life. According to leaked screenshots, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will have a battery life of 30 hours with the case and 8 hours with the earbuds. This is up from 11 hours with the previous generation earbuds and 31 hours with the case. It's not clear why, but it could be due to the increased power consumption of the new chipset.
Besides this, previous leaks have suggested that the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will come in four new colors and have a slightly updated design. Thankfully, we're just a day away from seeing these leaks as Google prepares to unveil its new Pixel lineup at its hardware event. Android Police will be bringing you our full coverage of the Made by Google event, bringing you the latest updates, news, and details as they happen.
