Atlus will sponsor the Haas team during this weekend’s F1 Singapore Grand Prix to celebrate the upcoming release of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
While it may seem like an odd pairing, there is actually a clear crossover. Metaphor features a red-haired elven knight named Hulkenberg, while Nico Hülkenberg is one of the drivers for the Haas F1 team.
Naturally, both Hulkenberg and the game's protagonist will appear on the noses of the cars driven by Hulkenberg and teammate Kevin Magnussen respectively.
A great fantasy anime RPG and an F1 race powered by modern technology don't seem to have much in common. Atlus, however, would disagree.
“Overcoming fear and anxiety is a central theme in Metaphor: ReFantazio, and featuring Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, drivers known for challenging the impossible, in racing cars perfectly mirrors our game, where players overcome the odds in their quest to be crowned in the Tournament Royale,” said Irvin Ducournau, marketing director at Atlus.
“Partnering with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team ahead of the Singapore GP is a natural fit, as the high-stakes nature of Formula 1 aligns perfectly with the game’s competitive voting mechanism, where players earn followers in their bid for victory.”
Ah, now it all makes sense!
Mark Morrell, Haas Team Marketing Director, also commented: “This highly anticipated game is visually spectacular and packed with all the speed, suspense and excitement you would expect from a Grand Prix weekend. This is our first partnership of its kind and we can’t wait to share the exhilarating world of Metaphor: ReFantazio with racing fans.”
Last month I tried out Metaphor: ReFantazio, and while I can't say I spent any time competing, I definitely got a taste of its competitive election storyline.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is the next game from Atlus, creators of the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series, launching on October 11 for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC.
