MobileX is an MVNO that provides cell phone service on the Verizon network, with inexpensive personal plans and some large unlimited plans. MobileX was launched with a focus on an app user experience that keeps customers informed and allows them to easily adjust their services as needed. Still, all of its plans were small, with the top option offering only 30 GB of data. This has already been updated since the carrier we tested in our MobileX review started with 15GB, but MobileX's latest change is the most significant yet.
In a press release sent to Android Police, MobileX announced that all MobileX plans will be upgraded. The carrier is increasing the amount of data that comes with its plans, while also adding international features to stay competitive with other options. MobileX is not owned by Verizon, but it uses Verizon's network and was founded by Peter Adderton, who also founded Boost Mobile, which is now owned by Dish.
This update to MobileX features carrier-owned prepaid brands such as Mint Mobile and Visible. MobileX CEO Peter Adderton said:MobileX is poised to take on prepaid brands owned by major carriers head-on and offer more choice to both new and existing customers. We now offer 2x data on customized plans, unlimited plans with no data caps, and expanded options to stay connected around the world. Although we operate as an MVNO and do not own our network, our commitment to providing the best plans and experiences remains unwavering. MobileX customers can trust us. We will continue these offers as long as competition persists. ”
MobileX has more data than ever
Finally truly unlimited data
Starting with the cheapest plan, called Personalized Access, MobileX matches the data customers purchase, effectively doubling their data. Purchased, unused data will be carried over to the next month in the form of a billing credit, but matched data will not be carried over. Still, if you only need a few gigs of data, MobileX is definitely one of the cheapest ways to get it, especially if you choose from limited talk and text plans.
Things get a little more interesting with the Unlimited plan, which starts at Unlimited 5 and upgrades to Unlimited 10. This plan comes with unlimited talk and text with 10GB of high-speed data. Pricing remains the same at $14.88 per month, but with this update users can now add unlimited international calling options to over 90 countries for $9.95 per month.
The top unlimited plan is truly unlimited. This plan doesn't lock you into a certain amount of high-speed or priority data like many unlimited plans, but instead is a simple, truly unlimited option for $24.88 per month. This plan also includes an international calling add-on to over 90 countries, so it's worth upgrading if you know you'll be making a lot of calls overseas. At first glance, this plan looks a lot like Visible's $25 unlimited plan, but it's less restrictive with ultra-wideband 5G access.
MobileX doesn't focus much on international data, but the company is also adding a $9.95 international day pass that includes 1GB of data. If you're crossing the border for a few days, this is an easy way to ensure you stay connected without having to hunt for another SIM.
