- Edge for Android offers a new Copilot UI with a bottom address bar and a separate Copilot tab, giving users more flexibility.
- The new feature is currently only available in Edge Canary and can be tested by enabling the Copilot update flag in edge://flags.
- Due to the lack of Edge Canary on iOS, iOS users are not currently able to try out the new UI, so it is limited to Android users for now.
Despite having a first-mover advantage with Internet Explorer, Microsoft was never able to catch up with the browsers that came after it, and while the tech giant finally killed off Internet Explorer in June 2022, it has been steadily improving Edge for the past two years.
A better browser than Internet Explorer in every way, Edge is Chromium-based, which basically means that it shares the same underlying technology as Google Chrome, and just like Chrome, Edge has a lot of in-development features that you can try out.

Microsoft finally kills legacy apps
At the heart of Microsoft's second browser effort is its AI tool, Copilot, and the Redmond, Washington-based tech giant appears to be trying a new approach, at least for Android.
In Edge for Android, the address bar and associated tools are located at the bottom of the page, with the Copilot shortcut in the middle. Typically, tapping on the tool opens a panel within the browser, but as shared by @Leopeva64 on X, Microsoft is testing opening the AI tool in its own separate tab.
This change is currently only available in Edge Canary. Copilot Updates Flags from edge://flags .
It's a small change, but for the 5.25% of all users who use Edge (that number is smaller on Android and will likely be even smaller on Canary), this should give them more flexibility when browsing, and make it easier to multitask between Info and Copilot tabs.
The new Copilot UI is not yet available to try out on the stable Edge for Android, and it's unclear when it will be rolled out. It's also worth noting that iOS users can't try out the new UI yet. While there is an Edge app for iOS, there is no Edge Canary for iOS, so iPhone users can't try out the experimental features.
