Monster Hunter Wilds may not be coming out until next year, but Capcom just made a small change in its hype management with the release of three new videos detailing some of the additions and mechanical refinements players can expect when this latest entry in the series arrives in 2025.

Video number one, titled Basic Mechanics Overview, zips through some of the more fundamental aspects of Monster Hunter gameplay before introducing Wilds’ new bird-like dino mount, the Seikret. This (alas) replaces Monster Hunter Rise’s awesome dog-like Canyne, serving as a new way to zip around the place.

The Seikret can automatically guide hunters directly to their target if they choose, and players are free to pick up items from the environment, drink potions to restore health, sharpen their blade, or switch between primary and secondary weapons ready for battle while mounted. The returning Slinger also got a small update in Monster Hunter Wilds; in addition to being able to throw different types of ammunition found on the map, it can pick up items from afar and tear off pieces of scenery (rocks, for example) on monsters' heads.

As for Capcom’s second video, it focuses on the classic Great Sword, a heavy blade with slower movements that can pack an absolute punch. More notable, however, is the nod to Wilds’ new Focus Mode, which gets a wider airing in the third video.

Focus Mode allows hunters to position their guards and aim their attacks more precisely, especially to hit a monster's wounds and weak points, which are now explicitly highlighted with a glowing red effect while Focus Mode is active. Hitting wounds or weak points in Focus Mode deals additional damage, which Capcom calls Focus Strike.

And that’s pretty much it for now. Hopefully Capcom will have more to share at Gamescom this year (it would be nice to see something other than Monster Hunter Wilds’ desert map, for example), and perhaps it won’t be long before we get a more specific indication of when it’ll be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam next year.
