The Android Beta Program team announced the release of Android 15 Beta 4.2 on Reddit. As the minor point naming scheme suggests, the AP31.240617.015 build is focused on bug fixes. Bugs fixed in this release include:


  • Fixed an issue causing delayed startup on some devices.
  • Fixed an issue where grey transparent bars would appear when using the camera.
  • Fixed a camera issue that was causing framerate drops.
  • Fixed a camera issue that caused a crash when changing zoom values.
  • Fixed an issue with camera saturation.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the UI to flicker.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the YouTube app to crash.

In addition to the above, this update will also postpone security patches to August 2024.

If you have a Pixel 6 or newer that's enrolled in the Android Beta program, you'll automatically get the OTA update to the latest Android 15 beta. Because this release is relatively minor, the OTA build isn't that large. On my Pixel 8 Pro, build AP31.240617.015 showed up as a 61.8MB update.

As the Android 15 public beta program nears its end, and Google has rolled out multiple updates to fix bugs, the company still has some issues to iron out. The company notes that Android 15 beta 5.2 does not fix many known issues that were reported after the release of beta 4. Developers and public beta users have reported many bugs in Android 15 on Google's Issue Tracker, many of which remain unresolved.
