Google announced the new fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat earlier this week, and now it looks like it's going to revamp how users control the device through the Google Home app.

Selling for $280 on the Google Store, the new thermostat has an all-glass display with subtle bezels, making it slimmer overall, with a larger display than its predecessor and a more modern look and feel.

This thermostat comes with features to maximize efficiency, including support for up to six Google Nest temperature sensors, a far-sighted display that shows different information at different distances, and subtle warnings if a fault is detected in the HVAC system, helping to prevent costly repairs before they happen.

To complement the thermostat's new premium look and functionality, Google has completely revamped the thermostat's controls within the Google Home app.

After nearly a decade, Google has announced a new Nest Learning Thermostat, which looks like a wall-mounted Pixel Watch.

However, there is still no built-in air quality sensor.

We've seen a revamped UI in Google Home public preview version 3.20.1.8. The change hasn't been widely deployed yet, so this could be an A/B test or a gradual server-side rollout before the fourth-generation Nest Learning Thermostat hits stores on August 20th.

The new UI isn't the prettiest, but it is certainly more efficient. Previously, icons for tools like Energy Dashboard, the deprecated Nest app, and settings and overflow menus were all located in the top right corner of the Thermostat UI in the Google Home app.

In the new UI, the Nest app and Energy Dashboard icons have been repositioned as pills below the main thermostat control, while the settings cog and overflow menu retain their positions at the top.

At the bottom, you'll also see information like time to desired temperature, mode, humidity, and fan control.
