Game Boy Advance Pokémon Title Joins Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo adds Game Boy Advance title Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team to its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack catalog.

The main series Pokémon spin-off RPG will join Nintendo's subscriber catalog next week, on August 9.

This is the first Pokémon game from the Game Boy Advance era to come to Nintendo Switch Online, which has previously offered other spin-offs such as Pokémon Snap, originally for the N64, and Pokémon Trading Card Game, originally for the Game Boy.

If you've never played Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, this long-running spin-off RPG series lets you play as Pokémon and talk to others.

Red Rescue Team was part of a pair of games, while Blue Rescue Team was released simultaneously for the Nintendo DS (which is not currently part of the Nintendo Switch Online catalog).

“Mystery Dungeon has hidden depths that more than make up for any inconvenience,” we wrote in a review of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team in 2006. “As the game progresses, the dungeons become more interesting — and dangerous — places, filled with lava, traps, and the like. Leveling up your teammates, managing your inventory, and clearing dungeons becomes addictive fairly quickly, though the side-quest structure lets you play as slowly as you like.”

Nintendo is currently offering two additional months of Nintendo Switch Online free with the purchase of a 12-month membership through the eShop or My Nintendo Store.
