Dead by Daylight's Castlevania Collaboration Adds Dracula and Trevor Belmont Later This Month

Between its animated adaptations and video game collaborations, which so far include titles like Dead Cells and V Rising , Konami’s legendary Castlevania series is alive and well and shows no signs of stopping (though a real new game would be nice, Konami). And next up is the previously announced Castlevania installment Dead by Daylight , which is now confirmed for an August 27 launch, with a public test build coming today.

The Castlevania Dead by Daylight collaboration sees Dracula join the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game as a new Killer, and he’ll be accompanied by his own empowering castle, as the two are “inextricably linked.” Developer Behaviour Interactive notes that whenever Dracula is the lead Killer in a trial with an original map, players will see his castle looming over proceedings.

Dracula is officially the first shapeshifting Killer in Dead by Daylight, and is able to transform into a bat and a wolf alongside his vampire form. The bat is “as silent as a creeping shadow” and can gain ground “in the blink of an eye”, which more practically means that the bat-Dracula has the Undetectable status effect, can move faster, ignore jump points, and teleport to any jump point within 32 meters. Survivors become invisible, but their scratches can be seen.

Dracula's wolf form, meanwhile, has increased movement speed and a “sense of fresh blood.” That is, puddles and scratches are more noticeable, and survivors leave a trail of Scent Orbs in their wake, which can be collected to charge up a powerful leap attack. And in vampire form, Dracula can cast the Hellfire spell, creating pillars of flame in front of him or through low obstacles, which “scorches flesh and reduces bones to ashes.”

Dracula, who has the Wretched Fate, Human Greed, and Dominance perks as detailed in the latest Dead by Daylight public test build release notes, is joined by a new Survivor, vampire hunter Trevor Belmont, first seen in 1989’s Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse. Trevor’s Eyes of Belmont perk reveals the Killer for a set amount of time when a generator is completed, and his Exultation perk upgrades the rarity of a held item to the next level whenever a Killer is stunned with a pallet. And finally, there’s his Moment of Glory perk, which activates after opening or scavenging two chests and automatically heals one health status when injured after a set amount of time.

Dead by Daylight’s Castlevania Chapter is now available for public testing on PC, but will be released in full on all platforms on August 27, priced at approximately $7.99 USD.
