The Alters, the upcoming release from the 11 bit Studios team behind This War of Mine, described as an “emotional” sci-fi game packed with cloning action, has been delayed.
In a social media post, which was billed as a letter to the game's main character Jan Dolski, the studio said that this delay will allow time to “optimize all mission-critical systems,” while ensuring that “every aspect of your journey is as smooth as possible” when the game launches.
This note added that the game's reception so far has been positive, but “good” is “never good enough” for Ally Corp, the company that coordinates Jan's rescue from the hostile planet he is trying to escape within the narrative by The Alters.
“This additional time will allow us to refine each phase of the project, delivering results that exceed our previous projections, an outcome that benefits both Ally Corp and, of course, yourselves,” the announcement of the delay reads.
“Thank you for your patience and continued commitment to Ally Corp's mission.”
The Alters is currently scheduled for release at an unspecified date during the first quarter of 2025, having previously been set to debut this year.

“It's a taste of a game that intrigues me but also leaves me a little perplexed,” our Bertie wrote in Eurogamer's 2023 preview of The Alters.
“This War of Mine had a much clearer idea – living as a civilian through war – whereas The Alters seems more speculative and fragmented. Is it a mining game? Is it a survival game? Is it a game about clones? I think it's an attempt to be all three, but I'm still not convinced it succeeded, but like I said, I've only seen a glimpse of it, and if it turns out to be something like This War of Mine, I'd be happy.”
