Circle to Search is great, but I'm not convinced it's the future for Google

Time is flat… something

For those who are unfamiliar with the feature, “Circle to Search” allows you to search for information without leaving your current app or activity. For example, if you're scrolling through Instagram and see a pair of shoes you like, just hold down the home button or navigation bar and draw a circle around the item to see more details about that product. Google uses visual search to provide you with relevant information on the highlighted subject.

Circle to Search comes to Galaxy A series and Tab S9 FE

Until now, this feature was only available on most flagship Android devices. Fortunately, Samsung today announced that many of its Galaxy A-series devices and all Galaxy Tab S9 FE-series tablets will have this feature. Interestingly, Samsung is also bringing this feature to some of its recently launched budget A-series smartphones, including the Galaxy A55, Galaxy A54, Galaxy A35, and Galaxy A34.

Samsung didn't give an exact date when the feature will begin rolling out, but did say that Circle to Search will be available on Galaxy A-series smartphones “this month.” No specific date was given for the Tab S9 FE series, however. Samsung expects to start rolling out the Android update for these devices sometime this month, but these updates are typically rolled out in stages, so it may take some time to reach all users. We'll keep you posted as we get more information on the rollout of this feature.

Still, it's great to see Samsung bringing this advanced AI feature to its more affordable devices rather than restricting it to its flagship products, and it's even better to know that Google has been working on improving Circle to Search over the past few months, with it expected to soon gain Shazam-like music recognition and the ability to scan barcodes and QR codes.
