Key points

  • You can find podcast episodes in progress more easily by saving them first.
  • Stop unwanted podcast recommendations by marking all episodes as finished in your viewing settings.
  • Although there may not be an automatic equalizer, you can improve the sound of your podcast by manually applying an equalizer in Spotify's playback settings.

While I love Spotify because it gives me all my podcasts in one place, there are certain aspects of its podcasting functionality that I think could be improved. Here are my top podcasting picks for Spotify, as well as the best solutions I’ve found.

1 Podcast episode sorting in progress

Some serialized podcasts have hundreds of individual episodes, and you may not listen to these episodes in a linear fashion. When you have to pause in the middle of listening, it can be difficult to find that episode again. When you search the podcast viewing page, Spotify has filters to view all episodes, downloaded, or unplayed, and an option to sort by newest or oldest. Personally, I’d like to see in progress You can use the filter on the view page. However, this feature is only accessible when episodes are saved.

Here's how to save and access episodes. in progress filter:

  1. Save an episode or add it to your episodes by clicking on plus sign Next to the description.
  2. Go to Your library Tab > Your episodesYou will see a filter for in progress On this page.
  3. Similarly, downloading an episode will add it to your episodes. Just tap Down arrow Near the episode description to move it to Your episodes.

If sorting through episodes in progress is a priority for you, and you're an iPhone user, you might also consider using Overcast, which has an automatic playlist of episodes in progress on its home page.

2 Curbing Podcast Recommendations

Spotify will push you to continue podcasts you’ve interacted with, even if those interactions aren’t necessarily positive. If you try a new show and decide to quit after one episode, Spotify doesn’t count that as disinterest and doesn’t offer an option like Netflix’s “Thumbs Up” and “Thumbs Down” ratings. And while you can rate a title publicly on Spotify, that seems like overkill when you’re just trying to influence your own algorithm.

Instead of a personal rating system, here's how to stop Spotify from recommending podcasts you don't care about:

  1. Go to the display page and open Settings equipment.
  2. Under Manage, click Mark as done. Select the first bubble. Mark everything as done..

Now click finishedAnd you're ready to go.

3 Auto Equalizer Settings

Spotify has great equalizer settings that can optimize the sound depending on what you’re listening to. For example, I use the Spoken Word equalizer when listening to podcasts, especially in the car, where street and wind noise drown out the sounds.

The dreamer in me would love to be able to automate these equalizer settings, like preferring to apply a specific equalizer every time I play a podcast episode. Until that day, you can apply an equalizer manually, even if it’s deep in your playback settings:

  1. Click on Profile Icon In the upper left corner of the application.
  2. He chooses Settings & Privacy > Operation > Audio equalizer.
  3. Move the slider to the right to turn it on. Audio equalizerand Also applies to podcasting..
  4. Scroll down and click on spoken word To apply this equation.

Aside from these three notable drawbacks, there’s still plenty to love about using Spotify for listening to podcasts. As picky as I may be as a podcast producer and super consumer, I’ll gladly put up with some annoying UI points in exchange for the rewards of a comprehensive listening app and features like the ability to listen to episodes offline. Ultimately, everyone will have their own unique preferences, and fortunately, there are plenty of free podcast apps to choose from.
